Premature Daughter

I witnessed her metamorphosis

She was a preemie,

early days in incubation,

with a nasal tube.

I stood in front of the hospital

sending her a message:

"Hang in there,

my dear daughter,

now some valor,

things will be better.

She hung on,

came home

I put aside my career,

made her my job,

told her high-level things,

which she soaked up,

like a sponge,

not only by words,

inspired by actions.

And now,

she is on the verge of six,

my best friend,

my moral compass.

She surprises me with her

unique art and crafts,

empathy for creatures,

love for her siblings,

high in social skills,

dancing and singing,

biology and languages,

helps in house works,

gutsy to show my mistakes.

She is an icon,

of resilience and softness,

witnessed her metamorphosis,

an unique gift,

like no other.
