Portrait of Kat, 2021, Oil on linen.
When you ask me what I’m looking at with such penetration,
you worry if I’m whatsoever engaged in conversation.
You ask me if my mind is wandering in private thoughts that don’t concern you,
or if I might be judging your looks or your intentions.
But truth is, my muse, much simpler than your preoccupations,
it has more to do with subtle tones and pigmentation.
Truth is I was never really engaged in conversation,
I was looking at your eyelid, for I’m a painter,
because I paint you.
