Pops (SUNY Maritime)
American haiku in the style of Jack Kerouac
7/21 (Sunrise)
๐ ๐ ๐
Sun, just risen, peaks
under northern arm-sprawl
of the Throgโs Neck
๐
From even dawn, the
stream is steady flowing
cars and trucks
๐ ๐
But the glossy green of
sound sitsโsoaks,
unmoving
๐ ๐ ๐
7/22 (Sunset)
๐ ๐ ๐
Above the highest deck,
spread and force filled wings
donโt flap, but glide.
๐ ๐
Gull on seaโs breath:
soiled but pure,
coasting
๐
A hope of mine:
heโd slideโwhich
calmly he defies.
๐ ๐
Not fast or slow, and so
the murky bird grazes
at gentle breeze speed.
๐ ๐ ๐
7/23
Humid air syrup sticking
like supple sap on
tree bark
๐ ๐
radiation, like saw,
cutting into
wooden skin
๐
brightness sears as
teeth of serrationโ
grinding
๐ ๐
sweat drops are
tears for the
end
