Poof!

Pink Powder

By Cate RhysPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Poof!

Pink powder burst from the popped balloon,

Framed by the muted hue of the afternoon aquamarine sky,

Sprinkling a light shimmering dust on our anxiously awaiting friends!

The sparkling specks floated, in slow motion it seemed,

Like snowflakes,

As delicate as the petals on the Hibiscus we hybridized.

The rose dust reminded me of the sunset sky

On the first night I gazed into her emerald eyes

As the great golden orb slipped into the drab-green waters

Of Lake Palourde for a drunken swim.

Throwing off its passionate saffron rays,

Leaving only a light blush on the web of cotton candy clouds.

Unaware a new family was starting.

The excitement of the solid indigo-blue line on the pee-stained stick

Could only be eclipsed by the pink sprinkles now laying

In the kelly-green grass under foot

For the two happiest Moms on Earth!

After five years of chasing that elusive blue line on the pregnancy test,

My wife and I were having a girl!
