Poem: I Always Win
Poem: Co-written with Roman Finley
I Always Win
I used to be forlorn—
perplexed,
dazed,
lethargic.
Grave clothes draped over me
like a black cloud,
like a curse,
a voodoo doll with a pin.
Then he called me by my name.
Now I’m cheesin’,
grinning from my heartspace—
internal congratulations
externally manifested
every single day.
My pain is still a battlefield.
Some days more Wuthering Heights
than mountain peaks.
But when I choose myself,
I always win.
It’s a blood rush.
A heartthrob.
A racer breaking the tape.
A racer breaking the tape.
