POEM - From Seed To Sky: An Ode To Ascent
By Jacky Kapadia
Beneath the blind and pressing loam,
A universe contained, a silent tome.
Not stone, but promise tightly furled,
A coded map to shape the world.
A speck of dust, yet holding fast
The blueprint of a towering mast,
Or humble herb, or blossom bright –
All nascent in that shard of light
Denied. This vaulted, patient thing,
Awaiting spring's unlocking ring.
No sigh disturbs its stony sleep,
No tear is shed, no vigil deep
Is kept, save by the patient earth
That holds this cipher of rebirth.
Potential sleeps, a muted spark,
Encased in elemental dark.
Then stirs the summons, soft and deep:
A tremor felt in timeless sleep.
Not clarion call, but subtle shift –
A warming touch, a moisture’s gift,
A crackle in the chemical night,
As dormant forces seek the light.
The husk, once adamant and cold,
Its ancient story starts to unfold.
A pale, determined probe descends,
A seeking root that earth befriends.
It navigates the gritty maze,
Through fractured stone and claybound ways,
Anchoring hope in shifting ground,
Where sustenance and strength are found.
Upward, then, a fragile spire,
A yearning fueled by vital fire,
Pushes against the weight of clay,
A verdant spear to greet the day.
Emergence! To the surface thrust,
A tender shoot, bespeckled dust.
First contact with the blinding glare,
The vastness of the breathing air.
The cotyledons, pale and new,
Unfurl like hands to grasp the dew,
To drink the sun’s transforming gold,
A story photosynthesis told.
The fragile stem, though slight and green,
Displays a fortitude unseen.
It bends before the wind’s first sigh,
Yet holds its posture toward the sky.
Each nascent leaf, a chart unfurled,
To catch the currency of the world –
Sunlight and rain, the vital breath
That conquers subterranean death.
The seedling stands, a testament
To focused, upward-bending bent.
Now seasons turn, the rhythm deep.
The sapling wakes from fragile sleep.
Its trunk, once pliant, starts to harden,
Weathering sun and frosty garden.
A lattice forms beneath the skin,
A scaffold strong, built deep within.
Each ring inscribed by sun and rain,
Records the struggle, marks the gain.
The branches stretch, a searching crown,
Reaching to pull the blue sky down,
Or shade the earth with dappled grace,
Claiming its own appointed space.
The roots delve deeper, intertwined,
A hidden network, strong and kind,
Supporting all the upward soar,
A vital anchor evermore.
Through storm and drought, it holds its ground,
A quiet resilience profound.
The canopy ascends, expands,
Connecting to celestial lands.
It whispers secrets to the breeze,
And dances with the rustling trees.
It offers haven, nest, and shade,
A living colonnade displayed.
It breathes the air, gives oxygen,
A cycle shared with fellow kin.
It touches clouds with highest limb,
A silhouette against the brim
Of endless blue, a verdant steeple
Reflecting life among the peoples
Below. It stands, mature and vast,
A culmination built to last,
A testament to patient power,
Nurtured through each fleeting hour.
And high aloft, where branches sigh,
The fruit is formed against the sky.
Or seeds are winged on breezes borne,
To greet a new, awaiting morn.
A promise packaged, tight and small,
To answer gravity’s soft call,
Descending to the waiting earth,
To prove again inherent worth.
The cycle turns, a constant round,
From fertile soil to air profound.
The sky, once distant, cold, and vast,
Is touched by legacy held fast
Within the seed, the root, the bole,
The reaching, living, skyward soul.
The journey’s echo, clear and high:
From grounded seed to boundless sky.
Short Summary:
This professional poem, "From Seed to Sky," traces the epic journey of a plant’s life cycle as a profound metaphor for potential, resilience, and transcendence. It begins with the dormant seed holding immense possibility within the dark earth, awakening through subtle chemical triggers. The poem details the crucial struggles of germination – roots anchoring deep for stability and sustenance, the fragile shoot pushing upward against resistance to reach the light. It celebrates the seedling's vulnerable emergence and its early reliance on sun and rain, highlighting its inherent drive ("upward-bending bent"). As the sapling matures, it develops inner strength (woody trunk, growth rings), expands its reach (branching crown), and deepens its foundation (complex roots), weathering environmental challenges. Reaching maturity, the tree connects earth and sky, fulfilling its ecological role and touching the heavens. Finally, it produces fruit or seeds, ensuring the cycle continues – the ultimate legacy echoing the initial promise, completing the majestic ascent from humble origin to celestial connection. The poem underscores themes of patience, inherent potential, necessary struggle, foundational strength, and the enduring cycle of life reaching towards boundless aspiration.
