Planet Earth

opening my eyes

I walk outside,

my mind explodes

and I feel a rush of

ecstasy.

I look around

and I can’t believe

that this is where I live.

How can the grass even BE so green?

How is the sky so blue?

How can water droplets

stuck together in the sky

reflect the cosmos itself,

forming patterns and shapes

so mesmerizing

that when you look at them

you melt?

The plants so expressive,

the creatures so strange,

how are the trees so bold?

How can it be

that the mountains can tell me

the most powerful lesson of my life

without ever saying a word?

And how can there be

this huge bright ball of light

up in the sky

that gives us warmth and life and joy

day after

day after

day?

Who even thought of

such a world?

This paradise –

how can it

even be?
