Pisces Heart
I've traveled far away lands to meet you.
I, an atom on a meteorite, traveled faster
than speeding light; crashed onto Earth
and froze upon a glacier.
The Sun God kissed me,
I melted and merged
into the Atlantic Ocean,
floated by blue whales,
suddenly my atom split in two.
Fins and gills sprouted.
I, a beautiful fish, maneuvered
toward the Pacific.
Days of fast rivers landed me in Montana.
Upstream.
downstream.
Dodged rocks, hooks, claws, and talons,
The atom marker was always
Yellowstone.
Purposeful hook reeled me in.
Or did I reel the hook?
I cook and feed father and mother.
There I grew in her belly,
munchkin cub with wonder for
the world around her.
Now I am a young woman, looking
into your eyes, ready
to introduce myself,
as your new bride.
*Thank you for reading my poem. This was inspired after a trip with my Nana to her homeland. As a first-generation American, going to one's heritage home gives roundness to our whole. If you liked this poem, give that heart a click. If you'd like to support artists with a tip, I appreciate it!
