Connotations on proprietary

Stifling originality

Closing gates of life and thinking lavishly

...

Rules present in all present

Life, existence, thoughts. Incessant

Rules set by others

Rules set by another

If you had your druthers

Would you follow rules?

Or would you decide to flee and expand your wings to cruise...

Over the known

And touch unknown?

...

Would you question things since ever foretold?

And experience the fear and uncertainty

That comes with clear controversy?

Settlers questioning your views fervently

Unimpressed with change

And unknown claims

Some even pressing you down and maim

Your image in society

Forever impropriety associated to your character

Would you fold under pressure and accept the status quo?

Or would you fight for your voice and show

That life is unbending

Discovery, unending

For rules continue to be discovered

On the daily. Uncovered

Knowledge is floating around us waiting

Unveiled for all to see and recover

But we need a wide net and open minds

Or else, we’re just scuppered

Author's Note: This poem was inspired by Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. In one of the episodes, Neil deGrasse Tyson talks about how many pioneers in science were often labelled crazy and shunned by the reset because of pre-established premises.
