Pieces of a Puzzle

That only thought they matched

Two pieces of a puzzle

that couldn’t hold their tongue

got into a messy tussle,

deciding who's in the wrong.

The blue piece argued loudly

„I make up entire sky!”

While yellow still stood proudly

and wouldn’t let it fly.

The shining yellow piece,

so quiet and so mellow,

released her inner beast

and long surpressed bellow.

„I am the only reason

you have that colour, bright!

You’d be forever freezin’

without my mighty light!”

„Oh, please!

You’re nothing but a dot.

A mediocre star, a sneeze,

who just so happens to be hot.”

„Oh, is that now what you think?”

asked yellow, deeply hurt.

Without a single blink

was gone with no revert.

The blue in everlasting gloom

only now just realized.

Perhaps it’s not his final tomb,

his viewpoint had been compromized.

He’s not the sprawling sky he’d thought -

but found himself to be a part

of pants that Homer Simpson bought

on sale from local Kwik-E-Mart.

The yellow piece did get her own

call back into reality.

But giving up her fancy throne

to her was just formality.

Turns out she’s not the bellybutton

of the entire universe.

And all the things she thought were spot on

are actually, in fact, reversed.

Now one of them got put in place

on edge of Homer’s trouser leg.

The other found its resting place

on talking sponge’s square shaped head.

Two pieces of the puzzles

that never really matched.

Two pieces of the puzzles

that had to be detached.

Two pieces of the puzzles

who grew used to hearing threats.

Two pieces of the puzzles -

they came from different sets.

Bringing pieces of a puzzle to life was so clever. You certainly can find poetry anywhere. 🧩
