Photosynthesis:

then days begin again

Meghan L. Bucknell

I am green like the shoots

that grow anywhere they can

messy and excited to try

in concrete cracks

in the dark

under the unforgiving sun.

There have been violet nights

out in the cold

but I absorb the good

as light and water.

I am lucky for my space to grow free.

Encircled by wide open hearts

pouring out their saturated pulse

of love and spirit.

I am rooted in a line of mothers

following a grey, uneven path.

I plant my marks as respiration.

A piece of me, a breath to connect

me to you.

In my land,

the path of the sun paints

the slow ombré days,

twilight blue

brilliant silver

hot orange

magenta

cobalt

black.
