Personal Mnemonic

A free verse poem

By Talia DevoraPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
Video retrieved from YouTube. I had a t-shirt with a picture of the truck on it.

A white, loose, preppy graphic t-shirt

my mom ordered

from overseas

was my personal mnemonic.

In tiny chunks,

I’d read and analyze

the words,

“Den’ rozhdeniya”

encrypted in Cyrillic.

I’d begin

by sounding out

and carefully scrutinizing

that distinctive,

crab-resembling “D”.

Day by day,

my Russian reading abilities

grew as large

as The Tower of Pisa-

I became

a giant Russian alphabet book

anyone could purchase

for free.

That wearable personal mnemonic

I proudly possessed

worked like a magic potion

for the human mind.

Interesting poem that I will read a few times, though alpabets and characters and language intrigue me but beat me when I try to learn them. Excellent work

Now I'm wanting a video of you pronouncing the Russian alphabet to satisfy my enquiring mind. Also intrigued by the lifestyle quiz aspect of your writing....do any of your stories have an example in them? Would love to read them.
