Periwinkle Me

Periwinkle Flower in New Orleans

Walking through New Orleans

Down a mellow street

Peaking through the fence

I finally saw me

Me for the first time

I became mine

Existing in human form

And within the earth divine

Periwinkle flower

Calming and true

Unique blend and quiet power

A center line stained blue

Perwinkle.

Is it purple? Is it blue?

The shift in its twinkle

Shaped by light from the moon

Then theres me

Sassy and sweet

All my duality

Can seem offbeat

Tiny and strong

With a heart bigger than me

Sometimes I feel ferocious

Or like I radiate peace

Perwinkle is in my blood

Quite literally

Romanian ancestors used it

For healing properties

Two sides to every petal

Lavender ambiguity

Two sides to my story

Live in perpetuity

How do we define this color?

Questions swarm through your brain

From one shade to the other

It’s ok for you to change

When I saw you, periwinkle essence

I felt permission to be

A multifaceted spirit presence

Blossoms within me.

inspirational
