Perfect By Design

Perfect does not mean easy

A lub, dub, lub, dub reverbs in my ears

The echo of a life I want to remember,

It was once my most precious sound

One I’ve not heard since last December.

***

It was momentous and heady as it sped up

Reminding me of the sound of tiny feet,

Pitter, patter, pitter, patter, pitter, patter

With the rise and fall of love’s crazy beat.

***

A tiny whisper would eclipse my joy

Feeling the softest of breezes in the air,

Goose bumps would trace their way

As my wishes filtered through with care.

***

Nerve endings awaken from top to toe

Destiny and hope sears throughout the day,

Waves, echoes, scalding thoughts and ideas

Taking extra care in every single word I say.

***

Learning each lesson as it is played

Smarter, stronger, harder, colder,

Catching the burst, it tries to escape

Lighting a fire and letting it smoulder.

***

Finally hearing the lub, dub, as it slows

Accepting destiny and fate as mine,

May not be a want, definitely a need

The Universe is perfect by design.

***

To believe and accept is difficult

The choice removed from my hands,

I could fight, I could even struggle

No change to the deal as it stands.

***

Life is smoother with acceptance

Denial will stir up the murky pot,

Girl, you got it so very wrong

But the lub, dub, isn’t ready to stop.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
