Nightfall casts a spell
Of forgetfulness
The hex a narcotic hypnosis
That deceives me
With a morphine illusion
A midnight dream of memories
Carefree happy days long ago
That make me feel young again
I can run effortlessly
And even fly on the wings
Of a warm and gentle breeze
Places and faces I know well
Alive with that familiar smile
How I missed that laughter
The adventurous friendships
The quickening love
I have no pain
No worries
No disappointment
No failures
In this timeless Eden
Just the past made present
Melded into an amorphous now
For too short of a time
But Morpheus is chased away
The alarm blares its warning
The sun intrudes on my bliss
And steals away that timeless joy
And rudely bids me face the new day
With the old colorless reality
And the myriad worries
Wrapping me up tightly
In a straitjacket
Of emotionless shadow
Which is real?
And which the delusion?
The vibrant dream?
Or the low grade nightmare?
