Penelope

Free Verse Poem

By Aspen Marie Published 9 months ago 1 min read
Photograph: mine

For the first time

In my whole life

I was given a poem today

Written by my soul’s companion

Keeper of every secret

Wishes held dear, fears beaten back

By her grace and wit

Utterly pragmatic

A golden goddess

Forever clothed in grey attire

She must

If she wore anything else

Earth would pay her homage

Over our paltry sun

On every trip we take

Mountains climbed, oceans travailed

I take her photograph

Her smile lines have tripled

For she chooses LIFE

Embracing the world, arms extended

Stepping lightly on her toes

To leave the smallest impression

She carries our pack

Up mountain trails

Weightless and sure-footed

With careful precision she curates adventure

An enviable itinerary

Of heart spark moments

Sunrise trek along coastal cliffs

To sip exquisite coffee

As the world awakens

Words she wrote years ago

How she loves me best

Completely undone

For myself entire

Most precious gift ever received

Neatly printed on lined paper

Folded twice

Best friends

Should always write each other

Love poems

Friendship

About the Creator

Aspen Marie

In love with life and all of its foibles.

This is absolutely lovely! May we all be lucky enough to have a Penelope—and to write love poems to our best friends on lined paper. ✨
