passing ships

once we met like passing ships

We were two ships that passed each other by,

On the vast and endless sea,

Our destinies diverging,

In a momentary harmony.

We sailed in different directions,

As we watched each other fade,

Into the distance, out of sight,

And into the great unknown we strayed.

But I couldn't help but wonder,

What if we'd stopped and stayed?

What if we'd dropped our anchors,

And our paths had interplayed?

Perhaps we would have found,

A new and wondrous land,

Together we could have charted,

The great and untamed sand.

But alas, we sailed on by,

Two ships in the night,

Passing each other in the dark,

Destined to be out of sight.

And now I'm left to ponder,

On what might have been,

As I watch you disappear,

Into the horizon's endless scene.

But I take solace in the thought,

That we'll forever share the bond,

Of being two ships that once passed by,

In a momentary magic beyond.
