What pieces of me
Will you rehearse
Surely not anything as mundane
As eyes, lips and smile
These are anchors
For simple minds
Elaborate effort requires
Semantic detail
Deep emotion
Enduring retention
Requiring you to generate
Questions made
By you alone
To test your loyal recollection
As for me, I keep secure
Intangible hooks embedded
In my scales
Memories tuned to survival
Hold fast long after others
Have gone to rest
In the abyss of forgetting
No lung could hold breath
As long as mine remains
In my chest
Air currents ebbing and flowing
With the rhythmic wave
Of my diaphragm pulsing
I will keep safe
Within my coral cortex
The heat of your exhale
The way you rub
The tip of my thumb
As we hold hands
Our asynchronous inability
To dance on beat
You ceaselessly massaging
My poor back
When I brought forth our son
Time without measure or course
As glittering caustics appear
Waves wear chromatic diamonds
For a fraction of a second
Yet their ripple and shine
Entrance all who witness
Its ephemeral delight
Unconsciously cueing
The retrieval of abundant joy
Effusing phthalo hues
Of abiding fidelity

Sometimes it’s the little everyday touches like a thumb rub or an offbeat dance that hold the biggest stories. Keep holding onto those moments! 🥰

"As glittering caustics appear Waves wear chromatic diamonds" I especially loved these lines!
