Part of You

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 3 min read

[Verse 1]

Turn down the bright lights, turn down the show,

We’re not here to prove what two bodies can know.

Lay down your armor, I’ll set down mine,

Let’s meet in the silence between every line.

No trophies to chase, no finish to find,

Just the sacred geography of your heart and mine.

I don’t want fireworks that burn and fade,

I want the embers that keep us brave.

[Pre-Chorus]

Hold me where the words don’t reach,

Where breath is a language and comfort is speech,

Take all the time this moment can keep,

I want the place where souls meet.

[Chorus]

It’s not a race to the end of the night,

It’s the glow in your eyes when you feel seen right.

Not just the rush we sometimes call love’s proof,

But the tender truth beneath the roof.

I don’t want pleasure dressed up as more,

I want the key to your quiet door.

Loving you so much I come to be

Part of you, as you’re part of me.

[Verse 2]

We don’t trade favors and call it grace,

We learn the map of each other’s pace.

Ask with a glance, answer with breath,

Say yes to the living, say no to death

Of the mystery, the reverence, the choice,

Let the heart be heard in the smallest voice.

In the shelter of trust, the body is free,

To tell its story patiently.

[Pre-Chorus]

Hold me where the rush lets go,

Where the river of time runs sweet and slow,

Where I am known in hands and heat,

And we are the place where souls meet.

[Bridge]

Breathe in: I am here.

Breathe out: you are safe.

In the hush between heartbeats,

We make our brave.

I’ll be the candle, you be the flame,

We’ll be the home that has no name.

No keeping score, no mask to wear,

Just the holy ordinary of genuine care.

[Verse 3]

Let laughter live with awe in this bed,

Let tears have room for the words unsaid.

Pour a glass of water, pull up the sheet,

This is the after where love completes.

Not an ending, but threads we weave,

A promise we practice, a vow we breathe.

When morning finds us, it finds us true,

More ourselves for being two.

[Pre-Chorus]

Hold me where the noise falls thin,

Where giving and being are twins of the skin,

Where touch is a prayer we both repeat,

And we are the place where souls meet.

[Outro]

So turn down the bright lights, turn down the show,

Let the quiet tell us everything we need to know.

When I say I want you, I mean the whole of you
