PARKS TO REMEMBER
Childhood Memories
{} {} {}
The place where I lived in the city,
Had a park across the small street.
It was there the boys could play football,
And girlfriends and boyfriends could meet.
()
It had a small hill near a shelter,
That in winter was laden with snow.
We’d all grab our sleds and galoshes,
And that’s where we always would go.
()
The grass was kept clean and tidy.
The oak trees were mighty and tall.
Although we had fun there, as children,
The park was ever so small.
()
Now and then we would go to Manhattan!
New York City was a great place to be.
Everyone went to the middle,
Where for miles all you saw were the trees.
()
It seemed like we had walked forever,
As we played and enjoyed picnics, too.
Then we came to a place that as special.
It was called the Central Park Zoo.
()
It was a place of delight and, yes, magic –
As we children walked silently through.
We were awe struck with all the animals
Located in the Central Park Zoo.
()
The memories I have are so vivid,
Now that my hair has turned grey.
I’ll write these thought down for my grandkids,
And hope they’ll read it someday.
()
Children, themselves are the magic.
They can close their eyes and pretend.
Hand in hand, through the zoo they will wander,
As I did many years, way back then.

This was cute! I love the Central Park Zoo. I was not expecting to see penguins the first time I went there on an impulsive visit.
Good work. I always liked going to a park just to walk around and clear my head.
