paper planes

a poem for my sweet

lace my hair through the plastic holes in your sneakers

let me be the one who persuades you to keep them

I just never knew how hard I had to push before you'd break

close the door and hit my head on my pillow

now I'm a thousand thread counts away

taste the bitter baking of some fragile misconception

take a second to simply swallow it whole

I never thought you'd know just how to take me home

simple origami, paper planes, and feather drawings

can all just be flushed away

surreal poetry
