Overlooked

Unheard voice of devotion

By Emem IniPublished about a year ago 1 min read

I rise with the sun, and toil till the night

Errands and chores, my endless plight

I cook, I clean, I wash, with a sigh

But my efforts go unnoticed, I wonder why

I know I'm not perfect, I have my flaws

But a gentle guide could help me pause

And learn from my mistakes, with a loving hand

But instead, I'm criticized, in this demanding land

At night, I tremble, with a frightened heart

Afraid of the darkness, and the silence that parts

But they say I'm being childish, that I should be brave

But don't they see, I'm just a child, in a world I've yet to crave

I'm a maid, with a heart that's true

Longing for kindness, and a love that shines through

But often overlooked, and underappreciated too

Just a child, in a world that's grown anew
