My role in the great vaccine debate of 2021

Dear “to whom it may concern”,

In 2021 I worked a nice job at an outdoor furniture company. I am pro-VAX and they are anti-VAX, or anti-coerced vaccination.

This dynamic played out in a variety of ways. It came to a head leading me to resign after Delta variant broke out in late August 2021. Other than this disagreement I had a beautiful start with solid relationships at the company. I was in charge of Human Resources. My aim was to allow employees paid time off for highly encouraged voluntary vaccination.

One of the employees, Vanna, refused to be vaccinated. She actually came to work with COVID-19, albeit unknowingly. I developed a resentment toward her. I was fearful of catching the virus. I was in charge of the safety protocols for the whole building. I took my role and responsibility seriously.

Flash forward two years to 2023. I am still pro VAX and fully vaccinated. I have softened my position and realize the vaccine is not for everyone. As I am pondering this review and reflection, something occurred to me. The beginning of the end for my sweet stepmother, Diane, started exactly one week after she received the Janssen vaccination. The poke occurred on March 23, 2021 and by March 30, 2021 she was in an ambulance to Major Hospital, USA.

Coincidence?

Perhaps.

Preexisting conditions?

Most definitely.

What am I to do with this information?

People with a crisp correlation of vaccine to a progression toward death receive little or no compensation from vaccine manufacturers. I can relax my position and understand that the vaccine may not be right for everyone. I understand we did what we had to do at the time. It was under “EAU”emergency use authorization. It was our best hope and chance for the greater good.

I can see clearly now.

Ironically Vanna signed the sympathy card the department gave me for Diane’s passing on June 29, 2021. Diane died three months after receiving the vaccine.

I apologize for judging Vanna or anyone for their choice. I am sad this happened to Diane. Until the vaccine, my father was a mostly successful nurse caring for her at home.

There are a variety of ways to combat the disease 🦠 in a more comprehensive multi pronged approach. We have built these tools and are starting to know how to manage a coordinated effort. We need only get out of our own way.

Praying for better days, garden parties and sweeter endings.

Yours truly,

Sally Scientist
