Out there

Late night poetry

there is a world out there

where no one can reach

that fulfills all the promises

your old man tried to teach

you not to chase

since dreaming can be tough;

your mother’s hair caught snowflakes

and daisy petals

but left behind the sour tang of overcooked

perfume

when the world reminded her

of all she could not do.

he didn’t mean to push you

in a direction hard to swallow

it’s easier for him to break the ice

than keep you smothered in a tight

bunny’s burrow.

you should have known

that any choice could be deemed right

depending on the perspective you inherited,

your dreams can come out of hiding -

or not.

maybe somewhere else

your mother’s perfume

wasn’t so densely packed with sorrow

or a consuming echo of pain

she never really got the chance to remind you

of the beauty that comes from pain.
