Our Home

safety and play

By E'LISEPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

Our home will be a safe place

where all the kids like to roam.

We will play games in the grass with them

and we won’t yell when they break glass

or when their messes forever seem to last.

We’ll be the ones that uplift them.

Push them higher on the swings

and hear them when they say no,

now I want to go slow.

We will let them break stupid rules

and they will feel held

in the carefree childhood pools

of our playful parenting tools.

We will make jokes for them

that make no sense

and our home will be one filled with nonsense.

We will keep our bodies strong for them.

So we can let them feel the joy

of us being their favourite toy.

We will make messes

and we won’t clean up their dresses.

We will play tender games of love with them

and our imaginations will be

the solid foundation upon which they seed

their souls uniquely created being.

We will eat cake for breakfast some days

and we will feed them steak to power their play

Our home will be the one

where all the kids gather

because it is the place they feel entirely lathered

in curiosity, freedom, and peace.

Our home will be one of ease.

The one where the kids like to eat

because our food is organic

and served on platters of love they can feast.

We will do our best not to rush them

and we will choose every day to trust them.

We will remember the slow pace of a child

and give them the grace to be wild.

We’ll have a whole little tribe,

all the neighbourhood kids

will be catching our vibe.

The house that is safe for the child to stay, express fully clear in their imaginative play.

We’ll make art with them everyday

and make light of the funny way

we all fart, and don’t know what to say.

We’ll paint them pictures

of a world filled with love

We’ll make sure they know they’re fully held

by our God up above.

Our home will be a kind of heaven

that children will see

because when they come over

they can make-believe and breathe easy.

We’ll be partners and parents,

but we’ll stay kids through it all.

Because we’ve learned that growing up

doesn’t need to be serious after all.
