The abundant place we call our home:
Land of the free,
And home of the brave,
Has become desolate, caged, and fearful.
Of what is to come,
And what is already here.
A raging, productive, small giant
Taking the oxygen from our lungs,
Grasping the air that was once free.
Coronavirus, you might have taken over us,
But our heroes are putting you in your place.
The hands that never stop giving,
Even in desperate times.
The feet that refuse to stop running,
When one’s pulse fades.
The eyes that are steadfast,
In the midst of a crisis.
Every healthcare worker deserves a bow,
For every life saved,
For every risk taken,
For every life lost for another life.
Your sacrifice is noticed and appreciated,
As we all wait in anticipation for the battle to be won.
The battle is yours,
All because of your truly brave, persevering souls.
We don’t deserve you healthcare workers,
But each of you are a gift that we are privileged to have.
