Our Blue Dream
Just like Jhene’s Blue, I don’t wake up to a nightmare,
So I’ll just keep dreaming of us.
Maybe I might stare into those deep, low eyes and get scared—
Scared of a love that’s gone cold.
So I stoke the flames by showing that I care,
Cherishing the times we share.
Hopefully, I’m on your mind more than he is there.
Butterflies when I smell your perfume,
Even when you’re not in the room—
I’m haunted by your enchanting soul,
As if it were right here.
To say I can live without you would be a lie,
And maybe I’m hoping you might feel the same.
What’s the truth?
Do I cross your mind?
Do you picture us getting married and having a good time?
Because if you do, you surely should rewind
To the time we got caught blindsided.
Maybe we were too young to know,
But we sure did when we reunited.
It’s that feeling of excitement.
It’s like when you come around,
My soul shifts and vibrates to its highest.
But “mayhaps” it’s just me—like you’d say.
Or maybe I’m just delusional,
Fighting for a love I dreamed of
Since I was that little kid in elementary’s isolation chair,
Dreaming about a girl who could rock my world
Better than music to my ears.
But cheers—to the next shot of aether I chug,
A groan of pain bubbling in my ears.
Super glossy and potent, much like the tears from my soul—
The high of feeling a love so dear,
Yet I sense the horror of many fears.
How many times have I watched it crash, burn, and go wrong?
Something akin to a beautiful nursery rhyme
Turning into a malicious song.
A horrible, gut-wrenching piano hums
From the pit of my stomach to beneath my tongue.
It’s the simmering pain biting at me,
But I don’t let it deter me from the peace
That comes with your presence.
Ignoring the constant whirlwind of questions—
What’s ahead of us? What is destined?
I don’t believe we were chosen to fail,
But you can’t help but wonder.
What’s next, then?
A question so commonly posed,
Yet it carries the weight of a dying star—
Another tragic comparison for our love,
Something so intense and ever-expanding
That even professionals can’t comprehend.
But I’m too far ahead of myself—
Before the inevitable doom,
There are still hundreds of parts of your universe to explore.
Carefully understanding you to your very core,
Like DNA replication,
I realize there’s nothing I ever needed more.
Your smile and aura—contagious.
Even when we’re distant and disconnected,
They continue to spread,
Like the scent of a fragrance from someone you truly adore.
It reignites a moment, stokes your fire,
And you realize they have the power
To transmute your body with a single touch.
Not quite like sin,
But scarcely does it follow.
You go from feeling completely normal
To butterflies fluttering beneath your skin.
You wade and wish this blue dream never ends,
But the reality-warping, dimension-shifting
Starts to reel you back.
The many stars, planets, universes you explored
Were nothing more than dopamine-fueled hits of ecstasy,
Exciting you when you were bored.
Keeping you drawn in and committed,
Ignoring the simple fact—
Love is a two-way street,
And you can never be sure
What lurks on the other side of a creaking door.
They say love is a losing game,
But I see it more like a slot machine.
As soon as your cash is in,
You unconsciously accept you’ve lost—
Until proven wrong with probable cause.
