Dramatic Overtones

December is drifting to a close

Like a movie on a projector

Reaching the end of its reel

Flapping as one possessed by a spectre

*

The winter-ready trees nestling in

For their long, cold nap

Awaiting their blankets of snow

That’ll slow their lifegiving sap

*

The tired-out year willingly

Preparing to lie down to rest

Closing its weary eyes

Nestling into its cozy nest

*

As the year drifts off to sleep

With its layers of snow

A new one begins to stir

With a bag of surprises to sow

*

December closes its eyes

Closing out the old year

January stretches and yawns

Clutching all it holds dear

*

The new year is ready to unfold

Like a movie on a reel

Good or bad, easy or hard

Everyone is given a part of the deal

*

What we make of our lot

Becomes our ordeal

It’s not our time to fight

It's our time to heal

*

Each year, you choose the story

As you go along in life

It’s best to begin each new year

With the promise not to cause strife

*

So, as you watch the old year

Lay down its weary bones

Buckle up, Buttercup, and prepare

For a new year full of dramatic overtones

Awww this is so touching! I wish I had read it in December!! I loved these lines the most: The tired-out year willingly Preparing to lie down to rest Closing its weary eyes Nestling into its cozy nest And The new year is ready to unfold Like a movie on a reel

This made me rather wish that January was a no mans land between the years end and the years' start, where we all get to rest.

  • Aw MC Love this-The movie imagery is so cool and love the opening line. Does feel like we're in a movie being directed by someone else. Hope this year brings with it all the joy and happiness you deserve x LYLAS 💜

I love the imagery of December resting and January waking. I always get a bit sad when December is over so this is really comforting.

I am hoping for great things in 2026, Reconciliation of family and love and all good things. Out with the bad and in with the good, Sharon. We have to be optimistic. Here's to a fruitful and Happy 2026.

  • May only good things come your way from now on ✨️❤️

True. One movie ending. We will watch and act in another.

  • Let's hope that there isn't too much drama, though, Sharon! An apt way to close the year! To a great 2026!

  • Nicely Written 😍

  • I’m hoping for less overtones this year ❤️
