One
Wrong turn
Lost
Alone
Black asphalt
Broken
Torn away
Under his feet
Stirred awake
Grey ashen dust
Scatters with each step
Off to the right
In dim yellow light
Cold deep apparitions
In shadows take flight
They steal down the alley
Far from sight hidden menace
Distant whispers echo
Carry secrets in the rust
He stands still, a soul forsaken
No safe passage to be seen
Searches constant for the voices
Stumbles uneven, breaks the silence
With the sound of uneasy breath
Taut shoulders feel a steady pressure
Fear wells in his eyes for this certain fate
Turns to see the face of a stranger
That gives him assurance this dreaded night
Had death visited him this very moment
They would stumble along the broken gates.

Questions for reflection:
- Who is this person, and what happened to bring him here?
- Can you identify with him?
- Are you in the story?
- Who are you?
- How are you connected?
- Who is the stranger?
- How does this end?
