One of Us is Dreaming

For Raymond G. Taylor's "Art Inspires" Challenge

By Dana CrandellPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read
Night Jasmine 2, 2021, by Eileen Cooper RA: from the Raymond G. Taylor's private collection

You there! Voyeur! How do you think this ends?

As you stand there, pretentious, on your ugly feet?

My mistress lies bare for your leering eyes,

Dreaming her rough human hide, feels as sleek as me.

~

And how fortunate for her that would be,

To wear the regal fur of a superior species,

Silky smooth, like butter on a hard roll!

It might be enough to make me desire her!

~

No. For all her mewling, stroking and grooming,

She is but a serf, like you, born to do my bidding.

If she serves me well, I gift her with my scent,

Gliding, purring, rubbing – while the mood lasts.

~

Still, she believes I am hers, like this foolish canary

That I am forced to tolerate at times like these,

When we “play” together, for her enjoyment.

“Cute,” it would seem, means to defy Nature's rules.

~

But this day, she has slipped into slumber,

Dreaming, no doubt, of being my Queen.

Are you squeamish, Voyeur?

On this night, “Mister Cheeps” mysteriously disappears.

***

In my defense, Ray said we should have fun with it! Thanks for reading! Here's a link to the Unofficial Challenge:

I thought of writing something similar, but I went with her being an artist's model. Now we have two diff views. Loved this.

Fun indeed but also delightful in its feline POV. Why own a cat if not to facilitate a magic bird-vanishing act? But of course the nude is owned by the cat, not the other way around. Powerful entry and such a joy to read. Thanks for joining in!

I suppose the cat IS foregrounded.

Love this a whole lot. I am still concocting a take on the challenge as I love ekphrastic writing anyway. This was joyful and love the cat being very dismissive of the perves and non-perves looking at its mistress lol. Great entry, pal.
