One More Seat At The Table

A Poem

The tree is lit, and the stockings are hung

Though this year there’s one less up on the wall

*

Your absence is felt every day, especially today

Your laughter, your jokes, your smile, the way

You used to bring joy to every day

Especially days like today

*

Yet your presence is ever constant

Your spirit still alive and well

You’re present in every moment, we can tell

*

Your picture glows under all the lights

Your soul shining through, as bright as in life

*

You’re in our hearts, around the tree

And at the table, always an extra seat

*

Your treasured ornaments still hung on the tree

Your favorite foods still part of the feast

Your most loved songs still played through the house

Your best stories and jokes still shared amongst us

*

All the memories you left still cherished, still held dear

And we hold space for you as we celebrate

This year and every year

*

Thanks so much for reading! If you enjoyed this poem, I’d appreciate it so much if you shared it and left a heart, a tip, and a pledge! And subscribe to see more of my writing in the future!
