One Flame

Beginning And End

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

With one single flame created

Tended for and built to grow

A lifetime of blaze, nearly ended

Affecting the power of my glow

Sucking the air from all around me

Leaving a void that fills the room

Embers as cold, as I am empty

Barely holding on to fumes

No flint or steel left to reignite it

Extinguished without a single thought

The darkness envelopes what was candle lit

Surrounded by soot and ash lined rocks

My flesh is colder than the air now

The spark of life has been erased

That fire never defined me anyhow

It welcomed the shadows, to hide my face

Newly transformed now, to find my purpose

This ending allows my flame to rest

Just let me lie here in the cool grass

And find a new flame, in my chest

To move on one must love (like) oneself. I may have read this one wrong or read too much into it. Great job.
