One Day, I Left Myself Behind

The Echo of a Vanished Self

By Ahmet Kıvanç DemirkıranPublished 11 months ago 1 min read
Somewhere between who I was and who I’ll never be again… I disappeared

I woke up and found myself missing.

My soul had packed its bags in the night,

Leaving only a hollow echo,

A whisper where a storm used to be.

The mirror reflected someone else—

A shadow draped in borrowed skin,

Eyes vacant as abandoned houses,

A ghost still pretending to breathe.

I searched the streets for footprints,

Traced back the steps I never took.

Perhaps I drowned in yesterday’s silence,

Or vanished into an unspoken goodbye.

I found pieces of me in forgotten places:

A laugh trapped in an old photograph,

A dream buried under lost time,

A heartbeat echoing in the pages of a book

I never finished reading.

Maybe I was never meant to stay,

Maybe we all leave ourselves someday,

Splitting at the seams,

Drifting through the spaces between who we were

And who we can never be again.

But tell me—if I never come back,

Who will be left to remember me?
