On The Embellishment Of Sadness

a poem inspired by pop culture

embellishment of sadness by Solomon

In a world of sorrow, where tears cascade,

Lies a crafty art, a masquerade,

Where sadness is adorned, with skillful grace,

An embellishment, a cynical embrace.

Oh, how they weave their tales of woe,

With words that dance, and emotions that grow,

Each syllable a brushstroke, carefully placed,

To paint a picture of despair, perfectly traced.

They speak of heartbreak, with a sly grin,

As if sadness were a prize, they aim to win,

Their words, like thorns, prick at the soul,

Yet they revel in the pain, they extol.

They dress their sadness in poetic attire,

With metaphors and similes, they conspire,

To make it seem grand, a thing of beauty,

But beneath the surface, lies a twisted duty.

For in this embellishment, a truth is lost,

A cynical game, at a great cost,

They romanticize sadness, make it alluring,

But in reality, it’s a burden, enduring.

So let us not be fooled by this charade,

For sadness is not a trophy, to be displayed,

Let us embrace the light, the joy, the laughter,

And leave behind this embellishment of disaster.

For life is too short, to dwell in despair,

To let sadness consume us, unaware,

Let us find solace in the genuine and true,

And bid farewell to this cynical hue.
