On Dragon's Wings
A Loose Ballad
On dragon’s wings of good intentions,
she flies to save the moon.
Hurtling through stars and constellations,
focused on her heart-felt vision.
***
The steady North Star, radiant and bright,
glints off her shimmering scales.
While traveling at the speed of light,
she streaks past Orion’s belt.
***
On her starlit path of brilliance,
guided by the Milky Way,
thrown tangent by resistance
she reached the destination.
***
In awe to find, to her surprise,
sitting on shaded stone,
an old man singing lullabies
of shame and desperation.
***
And now she understood.
Her flight unnecessary to pursue,
the moon did not desire to be saved,
it just wanted to be blue.
***
She enjoyed the pointed sojourn despite,
and learned a lot along the way.
