On display
It’s gotten to the point,
We all have fake internet personas,
Always trying to get approval of others,
People who don’t matter,
Social media has become the new reality,
How we base our self worth and self esteem,
We don’t want people to see what’s beneath the surface,
Do we even have depth beyond a profile,
What we want people to see.
Chorus
That filter isn’t going to change what you’re going through on a deeper level,
It’s not about the comments,
Self worth isn’t based on others acceptance,
At the end of the day it’s what you think that matters,
We are more than what’s perceived,
We are more than degrees,
We are more than a new fad,
Happiness is not attained by your social status.
Is there true privacy,
When we post our whole life story,
Cries for help come off desperate,
But the new designer bag is glorified,
There is now time to be self centered,
I’m a whole world that needs help,
Communication used to be more than what you see on a screen or in texts.
Chorus
That filter isn’t going to change what you’re going through on a deeper level,
It’s not about the comments,
Self worth isn’t based on others acceptance,
At the end of the day it’s what you think that matters,
We are more than what’s perceived,
We are more than degrees,
We are more than a new fad,
Happiness is not attained by your social status.
Technology has taken away the ability to have empathy,
It’s all a contest,
On whose the best dressed,
Who has the finer things,
When you’re in that coffin,
Those things won’t be there,
Do you want to be forgotten or remembered,
Between the line of
Your birth and death.
Chorus
That filter isn’t going to change what you’re going through on a deeper level,
It’s not about the comments,
Self worth isn’t based on others acceptance,
At the end of the day it’s what you think that matters,
We are more than what’s perceived,
We are more than degrees,
We are more than a new fad,
Happiness is not attained by your social status.
Time is a fleeting thing,
You are more than what you present.
Be present
