On Angels Wings

A Villanelle Poem

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

When I was young and took a flight

I dreamed I too would fly one day

A bucket list of things I might

I wondered every day and night

If God was hearing what I say

Would ever I be cleared for flight

My one desire was “Do this right”

Yes, even if it meant I pray

I prayed I may, I prayed I might

By now this sounds a little trite

If God tells me, “Son, not today”

Do angels lend their wings for flight

A voice within said, “Hang on tight”

Your confidence must never stray

Keep holding on with all your might

So here’s my issue, here’s my plight

That Angel offered (back in May)

His own two wings for future flight

I wouldn’t then, but now I might

fact or fiction
