oh, so history really is doomed to repeat itself
just trying to make sense of it all.

It is a rotten thing, a fear-based culture,
I’ll humble-brag about living through it, though,
Through things historians will hate us for,
‘Right side of the past’, something something.
I can feel it. Low throbbing sob of the air,
Cracking threat, potent ‘probablys’,
Crow on my shoulder shrieking, “Run”
Me, tripping and sliding through the airport,
Ink gliding under my shoes. Graveyard,
Of book pages, and scratch of a student's pen,
Saying, “The faceless were so easily manipulated
Fourth Reich came. And it happened here, even,
Land of the free-falling into their own torrential shit,
Not doing a damn thing about it.”
They’d roll their eyes. Pin me to the pages butterfly-style,
As somewhere someone says, “That would never happen, nowadays”
And somewhere else, someone else says, ‘I will Make This Better’
Which they cheer for, all over again.

I agree with JBaz -It should be only fiction, unfortunately it could be reality. I found it a little disturbing. The faceless were so easily manipulated. Disturbing at best. Well Done!!!
I've had nightmares for days. The world is upset, and it's palpable in our soil and in our air, disturbing the resonance. We will be ok one day. For now, we grieve.
Crow on my shoulder shrieking, “Run”... This was such a stand out line for me - I thought your poem was so good. Just wish things were different.
These thoughts should only ever be in Fiction, unfortunately it may be reality
Rutger Bregman said recently that 'people who are suffering now don't give a shit if you're on the right side of history, they need you to win' - can't stop fighting now, because people need to know you are as pissed off and scared as they are. Good luck, keep writing
Yep. Well said. Wish you didn't have to though.
