I’m impatient, get frustrated
seems this mood might be contagious
Back it up please, I can't face it
your expectations are outrageous
How you hold me to a standard
that you don't observe yourself
You insist on being pampered
your needs above EVERYone else
If I could, I'd smack your mother
but it's your dad you get that from
What she's put up with, makes me shudder
I'd love to kick him in the bum
But there's a point when you should stand up
be better than that piece of shit
Instead, you use him as your crutch
so you can get away with it
How I fell into your trap
I look back now and scold myself
I'm so far now, from all your crap
but I think it's time you got some help
You have a small boy learning lessons
how he'll turn out, is up to you
Please don't repeat your dad's transgressions
do better so that he can too

Powerful but true words, Kelli. There must be so many families this can apply to.
Oh, oh, ohhhh, do I ever relate to this cycle of passive parenting. This poem should be pasted on school bulletin boards in the parent/teacher conference room. Poetry relieves a lot of angst. Get 'im Kelli, 😆
Great poem to which I'm sure many of us can relate. We all know that person who just can't seem to rise above the past. This poem screams, "Stop the cycle and give the next generation a fighting chance."
What a great poem for a parent education class to introduce the course.
