Ode to Pen

Author's Trusty Sidekick

My dream is to be an author,

To unravel my characters’ tale.

But my mind cannot decipher this,

And thus far I fail.

My trusty Pen held in my hand,

Will always take my side.

Whenever my brain can’t respond,

It writes what’s on my mind.

Whether it’s about the rain,

Or what I want for tea.

Pen will capture my mind’s eye,

And share it all with glee.

Though my story is still incomplete,

And I can’t fill in the blanks.

Pen will always hold my hand,

They forever have my thanks.

For if Pen had never found me,

Stuck inside my own head.

My ideas never would have come to life,

And my book would thus be dead!

This is entered into the Ode to Ordinary Challenge. I hope you enjoy it!

  • This one caught my eye because you sound like me- someone who wants to write but is scared by all the blanks that need to be filled in to make a story complete. So I haven’t written my book yet…but I’ve written about many other things! Your poem was comforting. I understand!
