Ode to Peace and Quiet
My husband and daughter left,
leaving me at home, alone
for the day and the evening.
***
Do I cry? Do I die?
Does the loneliness make me sob?
No. No. It does not.
***
Not that my loved ones are noisy or demanding;
I quite like having them here,
but my own company I’ll never fear.
***
Should I turn on the television or radio
to drown out the sound of my own thoughts?
No, I think I’ll listen. Today, they don’t have to shout.

Really nice one I hadn't seen yet. You convey a very real perspective of family and a chance for a quiet moment. Loved the last line💙Anneliese
Really enjoyed your poem. After children are grown, grandchildren are growing and great-grands are here, sometimes it is after they are here and go home, I feel that way. 😊💕
I wish I can live all alone in a cabin in the woods, far away from humans and civilization. Your poem created this beautiful picture in my mind!
Sweet & lovely. An introvert's paradise --at least for a while.
Peace and quiet is often underrated. Great job.
It really is the simple things in life. Very good poem.
😆📚🎢Nicely written 📝 ❤️💯😉
