Ode to Normal

Or Not...

Of all the things I'll never be,

By far, the basest one is thee.

So goodbye, Normal, I never knew

What all the world could see in you,

Why comments, lies, and insults form

Against those who don't fit the norm,

Who dance with the moon, live with the stars,

Content to be just who they are.

------------

I could not wish for purer pain

Than that my life should be mundane.

Though monotony such comfort gives,

The madman's mind in wonder lives,

Of common sense, of folly's fie,

Of each new life that lives to die—

For life's the price of normalcy;

A life well-spent must stranger be.
