Ode to Absence

In the Footsteps of Dickinson

White space fills the canvas, where once your presence bloomed,

A stark reminder of a garden uncaressed, consumed.

Each empty chair an echo of laughter long since stilled,

Haunting halls where whispers of joy were spilled.

My heart, a humming bird, trapped in a vacant cage,

Beats against the bars, yearning for a bygone age.

Memories, hummingbirds themselves, flit and tease,

Of summer meadows, where love used to appease.

Will the winter ever yield, thaw the frozen ground?

Can spring return, with blooms and laughter's gentle sound?

Or will this barren landscape forever remain,

A monument to absence, etched in sorrow's rain?
