Ode To A Puppy
Poems For Children. The Noble Collection

There is a dog named Noble, Noble is his name
Preserving Havanese is his aim
He plays with his pup all day long and sings to him this song...
You, you, you can chew my thumb
You can chew my thumb
And I won't spank your bum
Because you're just a puppy and can't do any wrong
I love ya with all my heart
So go ahead and chew my thumb
Treats are on the floor
But you can't have any more
So go ahead, chew my thumb.
There is a dog named Noble, Noble is his name
Preserving Havanese is his game
He plays with his pup all day long and sings to him this song...
You, you, you can chew my thumb
You can chew my thumb
And I won't spank your bum
Because you're just a puppy and can't do any wrong
I love ya with all my heart
So go ahead and chew my thumb
Treats, treats are on the floor
That's ok there are plenty more
But go ahead, chew my thumb
This poem is dedicated to the rare Havanese breed of dog who almost went extinct in the Cuban Revolution in the 1970s when the breed was almost decimated. Eleven little dogs escaped to the US where Mrs. Goodale revived the breed and had them classified and registered in the 1990s. Today there are approximately less than 11,000 in the world.
This is a Children's Ode. Ode defined as a lyrical poem, celebrating an individual or idea or natural scenes. This is closest to a "Horation" ode, one that is informal and if not meditative (though it does repeat), it is devoid of strict rules. Somewhat like the upbringing of these little hams (giggle).

Awww! I love dogs and animals in general. And thank God for Mrs. Goodale. Her effort is amazing and commendable. Thanks for sharing this poem and insight.
That is so sweet. Well done.
I didn't know that they almost went extinct. They are so very cute. Not as cute as my pup but still very cute 😍 Cute poem as well and I love the picture
So sweet! Puppies are the best!
