Eyes closed
Punishing wind
Slivers rain
Under my skin
Icy salt air
Whips hair into
Mad, undulating snakes
An island Medusa
Kissing gales
Where sea enfolds sky
Whales compose new songs
In October
To sing next year
Their haunting melody
Eerily echoes through
Mountain passes
Permeating heart’s self
Resonating deeper
Than mere senses
We don’t take pictures
In sacred moments
Our fun poses
Belie deep purification
Taking place in
Ancient groves
On rocky coastlines
Piercing waves
With jagged teeth
Obsidian maw wide
Swallowing hippocampi
Conveying messages
Under Amphitrite’s
Sorrowful eye
Shipwreck necklace
Upon her breastbone
Whale bones reek
Above water
Never meant to
Be ashore
Sacrifices as plea
For her magnanimity
Come with me
Walk rock beaches
Littered with crab shells
Picked clean by
Industrious sea birds
Bulbous aquatic plants bob
Fun flotation devices
Cleverly devised by
Lazy seals
This is
West coast

What an absolutely stunning piece! You've created something that feels visceral and mythic all at once.
Well-wrought! What an interesting variety of rocks!
Sounds like a cool place, with lots of things to do. Lovely poem.
Oooo, your imageries were so vivid! Loved it so much!
