Behind Glass

Loving a psychopath

Is akin to

A one-way mirror

They observe emotion

Quite clearly

Yet never will you

See theirs

At first affection

Appears legit

but over time

You learn

(the hard way)

Any love perceived

Simply a reflection

Of one’s own

Relief when

No crimes are committed

Which warrant institution

Yet many transgressions

Acted upon poor souls

Ensnared by hope

Does it feel worse

When ASPD is present

In parent or child

Weighing ingots of

Living death

Has no age limit

Understanding biology

Neuropsychological profiles

Surveyed from afar

Fascinating, I’m sure

Surfing destruction’s wake

From personal experience

Confidence in saying

Less so

There’s violence in letting go

Ripping away illusion

Piercing delusion

Many cherished beliefs

To death succumb

What’s one more

For the scale

I will cut this

Gangrenous limb

From my heart

Shed one more skin

Underneath lies one

Full of vitality

All growing things

Attend to me

And I to them

Now I am a good mother

I have no need for

A terrible father

Anymore

Aspen, your poem captures the chilling complexity of loving someone incapable of empathy. The mirror imagery is powerful—it reflects both the illusion of love and the painful awakening from it.

Oh my gosh. Love love LOVE. The photo 😍 A one way mirror. PREACH. Why am I relating already. Gosh darn it! A reflection of one's own relief 💀 yep. I could not have said it any clearer. Any better. It's painful. Many transgression DID act upon my soul. And doing mad research after the fact... A relatable role. Violence in letting go. I am staggering with how truthful your words are. I have no need for a terrible father anymore. PREACH to hell with them. Ugh!! I am so in love with this one. I relate and I agree. Outstanding work Aspen 🤗 ❤️🖤

Well-wrought! The dark side of empathy, as I've often suggested, is how the mirror effect can be leveraged by those who feel not what they display.

Absolutely LOVE that gangrenous limb! Well done and good luck 🤞

  • "I will cut this Gangrenous limb From my heart" "Weighing ingots of Living death" These lines were my absolute favourite! Loved your poem!

Narcissism, a one way mirror, sad to say. Let go and move on...many have done it. Good for the soul.

Whoa girll, that was powerful! Raw, honest and straight-up fierce! 🔥 That vibe perfectly mirrors breaking free from what once trapped you. Love that dual meaning!
