One night when I was younger
I wandered alone on a vacant beach
Eventually plopping myself into the soft sand
To stare into the endlessly roiling ocean
For no reason at all
And for just a moment
The briefest of milliseconds
I swear I saw a dragon duck beneath the waves
I never told anyone
Never once mentioned what I saw
But from then forward
Whenever I was free
Whenever I had a moment to breathe
I would find myself walking the moon’s beach
Sitting in the dark-golden sands
Praying that I’d see a Dragon in the waves
And knowing that I never would
