Nothingness

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

[Verse]

Two spirits linger in the shadowed room

A jar of pills whispers sweet perfume

A bottle of wine sings a siren's call

Both waiting to catch me as I start to fall

[Chorus]

They promise peace where the chaos won’t grow

A quiet release from the ache I know

So I let them in

Let them take control

Sliding softly into the void’s cold hold

[Verse 2]

Their voices hum like a ghostly breeze

A soothing hymn meant to set me free

They bind my heart in their velvet chain

Saying they'll cradle me away from pain

[Chorus]

They promise peace where the chaos won’t grow

A quiet release from the ache I know

So I let them in

Let them take control

Sliding softly into the void’s cold hold

[Bridge]

The womb of nothingness pulls me tight

A hollow embrace in the endless night

But as I dissolve

Their faces fade

And I wonder if I’ve been betrayed

[Chorus]

They promised peace where the chaos won’t grow

A quiet release from the ache I know

But now I drift in the dark unknown

Two spirits left me here

All alone

heartbreak

wow, so heartbreaking. I sat with my mom when she took her last breath, but my dad and brother died alone in the wee hours of the morning in the hospitals where they were admitted. They were both in comas but I often wonder if they felt as alone and I thought they were. It's sad and a reminder that as the body dies, our brains might still be aware that no one is there to hold our hands. GREAT poem. You did a fantastic job of rhyme and meter and thoughtfulness.
