Not How Momma Made

Holidays and birthdays

And all events between

Mother always came,

Along with those home made cakes

Specially made for the person of the day.

From the ingredients she had to the frosting on top,

She baked her sweet heart inside,

For everyone she touched,

From our hearts to our stomachs,

There she always stayed,

We ate our slice of the cake

Suddenly a silent, but happy time.

There was not a crumb left,

Because we fought over who got to pack up the rest!

One day she’ll not be here

God help us on that day,

We will go to the store

Buy the same batch of eggs,

And even bake it the same way

But yet there’s something off,

It’s not how Momma made.

On Hallow’s Eve,

Dressed in pink, purple and green

We always had the best costumes

Stitched together at the seams

Not because it was the style,

Or the price we paid

But because it was one of a kind

One that Momma made

Now my world has shifted,

My mother, my lifelong friend

I cannot begin to thank you

You brought me to this day

To give me all my strength

For the day you go away.

Forever and a day I carry

Life long lessons and memories

You taught me who I was,

Who I was always meant to be.

I can never repay you for the love you’ve shown to me.

A mother’s love shall never die

This I know for fact.

Because you told me once before,

So therefore it’s a fact.

So when tomorrow comes

We will eat, sing, and remember

My friend you’ll always be,

I know you will be there

When it’s my turn to grow some wings.

My mother, my friend

An everlasting bond,

Not even the void between us

Can ever break that love.

That’s not how Momma’s are made.

This is such a beautiful tribute to parents on their impact on their children and how we can care for our parents when they get older.
