Not a one like you.

A person describes to their S.O. how meeting them has impacted their life.

I thought I might remain a wondering, lonely soul-

Perhaps that’s how I came to be so blindsided by you.

I thought I was different – lacking a half to my whole

I thought I couldn’t trust, but it simply wasn’t true.

/

Amid the calculated chaos of high society,

You stood out as only a person like you can.

As though unaware of your apparent impropriety,

Lack of formal dress, jade necklace, or ‘five-year plan’.

/

Unperturbed by your apparent mismatched attire

You smiled and glowed with indisputable charm.

And as your infectious joy set their callus hearts on fire,

Your genial spirit liberated souls of gloom and harm.

/

With your awkward glasses and average shoes,

Harsh wilderness of hair and second-hand watch,

You made my heart stir to life, and chased away my blues.

It's become clear there isn't one like you - so top notch.
